Appointments are typically available within a few days, and same-day appointments may be available. Your appointment is confirmed once your intake forms, diagnosis documentation and identification are uploaded.

How long does the visit take?

The video visit itself is short. Most of the work happens before it: completing the forms and uploading your records. The visit is where the physician verifies your identification and reviews your diagnosis and history with you.

What happens after a successful visit?

The physician submits the certification to the Georgia Department of Public Health. You then receive an email from the State of Georgia, pay the state fee, and the Medical Cannabis Card is mailed to you.

If my card is valid five years, why do I certify every year?

They are two separate things. The card issued by the state is valid for five years. The physician certification behind it is renewed annually, which means an annual visit to review your current diagnosis and history.

What if I do not have my records?

You can ask Dr. Shri Parimi to request records from your treating physician with your permission, or bring what you have and discuss it. Proof of a qualifying diagnosis is required before a certification can be made.

Can a caregiver be registered?

Georgia law provides for registered caregivers for patients who need one. Caregiver registration is handled through the Georgia Department of Public Health, not through this practice. See the Department of Public Health for the current requirements.

Can minors be certified?

Georgia law provides for patients under 18 through a parent or legal guardian, and some conditions carry age qualifiers — severe autism when diagnosed under 18, for example, while autism spectrum disorder generally applies at 18 and older. This practice certifies adult patients; families of minors should consult the Department of Public Health and the treating specialist.

I have an out-of-state driver's license. Can I still register?

The registry serves Georgia residents. An out-of-state driver's license or state ID can be used, but it must be accompanied by two proofs of Georgia residency. A Georgia driver's license or state ID is accepted on its own.

What does the card allow, and what does it not?

Marijuana is not legal in Georgia. The registry permits registered patients to possess medical cannabis products as permitted by state law, within the possession limits the law sets. Smoking remains illegal; vaporization is permitted for adults 21 and older. The card does not change federal law.

Why do I see this called a Low THC Oil card?

Because that was its name until July 1, 2026. SB 220 renamed the program the Georgia Medical Cannabis Patient Registry and the card the Medical Cannabis Card. What most people search for as a medical marijuana card, MMJ card or Low THC Oil card is officially the Georgia Medical Cannabis Card. Unexpired Low THC Oil Registry Cards remain valid until they expire.
